Consumer forum asks LIC Housing Finance to pay Rs 2.3 lakh compensation
In a recent decision, the New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has asked Life Insurance Corporation Housing Finance Ltd to pay an amount of Rs 2.3 lakh in compensation to two doctors for the loss of their documents.
The documents lost by LIC Housing Finance were submitted by two Delhi-based doctors – Dr Mukesh Kumar and Dr Renu Bala – who had drawn a home loan from the company.
The ruling by the consumer forum came after the two doctors brought up their case, alleging that they had submitted three documents – fifth and final demand letter, conveyance deed, and payment challan – with LIC Housing Finance to take a home loan. However, the company had lost those documents.
Siding with the two complainants in the case, the consumer forum said in its ruling that, after giving due consideration to all the facts stated by the complainants, it has been found that the “the loss of conveyance deed in name of complainants in office of Opposite Party (OP) is admitted fact, due to imperfection in securing it properly in safe custody.”
Asking the two doctors to protect themselves against fraudulent deals by informing DDA about the loss of original papers of the fifth and final instalment, the consumer forum said in its ruing: “OP is also directed to pay Rs two lakh as compensation to complainants for loss of conveyance deed … OP is directed to pay Rs 30,000 as litigation expenses.”
