Container Road transformed into dump yard in Kochi
The road connecting Kalamassery to the International Container Transshipment Terminal Vallarpadam (container road) became a dump yard of construction waste.
As the area is blocked by the backwater and a island, the waste dumping posing a threat to the existence of the water bodies and vegetation, including mangrove forests.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has put up a notice board stating not to dump construction waste in the area.
The NAHI officials requested different departments to stop dumping of the construction waste in the place. But no such activity is noticed.
It is became a major threat to the water bodies and vegetation between the road and island which should be preserved.
