Cops dispose of 18 land grabbing cases
Trichy police, in a step towards disposing of the pending cases related to anti-land grabbing, conducted lok adalat in Trichy and disposed of 18 cases. Due to absence of the parties rest of the cases were not settled. The event which was held in the anti-land grabbing cell in the Cantonment police station premises, was chaired by the deputy commissioner of police (law and order) Abhinav Kumar.
In the past two months, nearly 50 land grabbing cases were reported in the city, according to the police. Therefore, the city police commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav asked to hold an adalat to settle the issues.
Police had already informed the people in connection with the pending cases, only half of them came up. Parties of only 26 cases appeared today. As the cases came under their jurisdictions, Police inspectors from ten police stations in the city were present. Police managed to dispose of 18 cases as most of them were civil issues, by the end of the adalat. So, they had to be tried in the court. Though, in some of the cases, the parties settled with each other.
After the AIADMK government instituted anti-land grabbing cells in all the districts, the complaints of land grabbing started pouring. In some of the districts, by framing false charges against their opponents, people tried to misuse this opportunity.
