Corporations take steps to ensure safety of buildings
The municipal corporations are finding it difficult to check structural safety of buildings as only less than 5% of property owners applying for completion certificates. The civic agencies are planning to convince the people of the country to incur the completion certificate.
S.S. Yadav, commissioner, East Delhi Municipal Corporation said that in Hyderabad the owners have to mortgage 25% of their property to the civic agency to get the building plan sanctioned and once they get the the completion certificate for the building, the ownership rights are given back to the owner.
The corporation is also thinking to increase the property tax three-time for the properties which have not got completion certificate but yet to take the final decision, Yadav added.
According to officials, out of the 800 buildingĀ plans sanctioned by the East corporation only one building had completion certificate. The municipal corporation had hired National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) to carryout a survey on structural safety of structures in the trans-Yamuna area.
NIDM is checking all the aspects of structural safety before issuing completion certificate. According to survey done by NIDM it was found that a huge number of buildings were not secured because they have come up without any sanction plan.
