Corporators ask for pay hike
Civic corporators in Mumbai have unanimously passed a resolution at the civic general body meeting on Tuesday calling for a 150% hike in their monthly remuneration, from Rs10,000 to Rs. 25,000.
If it receives legal sanction, the hike will be paid by taxpayers’ money.
According to the corporators, the current remuneration is a measley sum and causes a lot of economic hardship for them and hence they have called for a raise.
The civic administration has not been keen on catering to this demand considering the additional expenditure will have to be borne by the civic body.
Critics argue that the hike will only be an additional burden on taxpayers and hence the civic body should not accept the proposal.
