‘Corrupt BBMP should be banned from taking over E-City’
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) plan to include Electronics City under its jurisdiction, to raise more money, has angered the companies and their employees in the E-City.
It is currently maintained by Electronic City Association, which is the best industrial estate of India and the pride of Bangalore. The association gets the cost of maintenance and infrastructure from the companies and is well maintained. The companies also pay taxes to the panchayats which help them develop the villages and improve the quality of the people’s lives.
The area accounts for nearly 10 billion dollars of software exports, has 2,40,000 employees, some of the largest companies in India and is the largest single centre of exports and employment in the country. It has radically changed Bengaluru and Karnataka and made the city a global name.
BBMP on the other hand has a history of corrupt governance.
The only solution would be for the state government to declare E-City a notified area give it the autonomy to govern itself, collect fees from its inmates for its own use and allow it to retain its current status as a example of good governance and good infrastructure.
