Cost down by 60 crores: MMRDA lowers cost of elevated road
Usually the cost of major transport infrastructure projects tends to be very high. They often shoot up at fast paces because of delays and several design changes. But surprisingly, the cost of a road between Bandra Kurla Complex and Eastern Express Highway has been lowered down majorly. The cost has been reduced by 22% because of a single sharp twist.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority assessed all the designs from the G Block of BKC to near Somaiya Ground on the Eastern Express Highway carefully. After several changes and alterations without completely transforming the scope of the project, the cost has been reduced significantly.
The plan which sought to construct an elevated road will make the business district of BKC more accessible from Navi Mumbai, Thane and the eastern suburbs as well. This will help in reducing the traffic and congestion in the region of Sion-Dharavi Link Road and the Kalanagar junction.
The official of MMRDA has mentioned that the originally the planning was for a span of 260 metres but now it has been changed to 5 spans of 55 metres each. It takes around 30 minutes to travel from the Eastern Express Highway in Sion to the Bandra Kurla Complex. But with the construction of the elevated road, this will be cut down to 5 minutes!
Since there has been plenty of requests by the potential bidders, the last date for submission has been shifted from 30th June to July 4th by the MMRDA.
