Every year in Tamil Nadu just 20% of the 2.5 lakh engineering graduates passing out of colleges are employable, said Sandeep Mehta, president of Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI), on Tuesday.

He also said that with institutions like Anna University, SRM and VIT universities CREDAI is trying to sign a memorandum of understanding for third and fourth year students to develop their technical skills, speaking at a three-day seminar for final year civil engineering Tamil medium students of College of Engineering, Anna University,

“To make them efficient employers the subject knowledge during four years alone is not sufficient but other skills are also required.”

“The member developers of CREDAI would be giving training to nearly 60 fourth year students as site supervisors to improve their skills. We have also recommended for the third year students of Anna University to make onsite training as part of the curriculum. During their fourth year they would also be trained as site supervisors and site engineers,” he said.
