CSDCI to train 3 lakh employees in next 1 year
To overcome to problem of shortage of skilled workforce in construction sector, the Construction Skill Development Council of India (CSDCI) aims to train at least 3 lakh workers over next one year under a program.
CSDCI which is developed under the National Skill Development Corporation is promoted by the Construction Federation of India, Builders’ Association of India, National Highways Builders Federation and Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India.
Mr. Ajit Gulabchand, SDCI chairman, says that there is a shortage of skilled labor in the development industry, therefore they are working to train the workers.
The council has been developed with the target to create occupational standards and competency levels for job roles as well as to issue guidelines and facilitate training and certificate of trainers and assessors.
He also added that that they want to make sure that competency-based training is delivered through all training institutions in the country. They also want more and more such institutes to be developed to create skilled labour.
The council has focused to develop skills for the sector with 6 main trades of mason, bar bender and fixer, scaffolder, carpenter, laboratory technician and assistant laboratory technician.
He also concluded that every year the program will scale up by adding new skills mainly 500 odd skills to be developed in the development sector. They will establish training standards and training institutes across the country.
He also mentioned that they will work out on the training mechanisms to build modules for trainers and eventually conduct certification of trainers as well as for workers. They plan to certify nearly 1.14 crore trainees and train 1.98 lakh trainers over 10 years.
