Cumballa Hill Tower in Mumbai Stopped Construction
The construction of a 61-storey structure under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme has stopped. The construction was started on Eastern slopes of Cumballa Hill by Halkara Builders Pvt Ltd.
The builder has stopped the construction of the apartments as the land is slide prone.
There is another apartment which stands above the slopes on Eastern hill top of Cumballa Hill. The builder will continue the ground compacting work for a precautionary measure as it is more important.
The residents of the Meher Apartments Co-operative Housing Society have claimed that the environment clearances granted for the scheme is not correct.
Based on the petition, the judges have sought from the SEIAA to disclose the documents on the basis of which the authority had granted environmental clearances for the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme, which would require cutting of the hill slope. This might destabilize the base of other structures in the area.
