DDA hands over 20-acre Rohini site to DTC for Millennium Depot re-location

According to a senior official in the Land Management Department of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has revealed that the possession of one of the three alternate sites has been handed over to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) for the re-location of the Millennium Depot.

Built with a total construction cost of Rs 60 crore, the Millennium Depot sprawls over a massive 50-acre area on the fragile western banks of river Yamuna. The Depot was constructed on a temporary basis ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2010, with an allowance from the Sheila Dikshit government.

The DDA official has revealed that, to initiate the relocation of the Millennium Depot, the DTC has been handed over nearly 20 acres of land demarcated in north Delhi’s Rohini, near Rani Khera area. The official said that though the possession of the land has been given to the DTC, the DDA has yet to work out the payments options.

The DDA’s move to hand over the possession of the Rohini site for the re-location of the Millennium Depot has come a few months after the Authority’s assurance to the Delhi High Court in May that it will give three separate plots to DTC to shift the depot.

Other than the Rohini site, the two other plots which DDA will give to DTC include a site at Karkari More in east Delhi, and land at the Institute of Driving Training & Research (IDTR) at Sarai Kale Khan.
