DDA Vice Chairman asks UTTIPEC to speed up clearance of projects
The Vice-Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has asked the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC) to clear projects at a faster pace. The DDA VC’s instructions to the UTTIPEC have come in response to complaints that the Centre inordinately delays project clearance.
Pushing for faster clearance of projects, the DDA VC has asked the UTTIPEC to focus chiefly on the broader issues of projects, without spending time on finer details. However, the Centre must ensure that no compromise is made on the critical aspects of a project.
According to the information shared by unidentified sources, the slow decision-making process of the UTTIPEC was apparently causing a delay of 1-5 years in projects which would take only 2-3 years for construction. The slow clearance of projects results not only in the escalation of project costs, but also leads to unnecessary hassles for commuters.
With regard to the delays caused due to the UTTIPEC’s slow project clearance, a source said: “The matter has been raised repeatedly with UTTIPEC and DDA and finally some concrete decisions have been taken.”
Meanwhile, along with asking the UTTIPEC to try an avoid needless delays in the clearance of projects, the DDA VC has also asked the Centre to finalize the terms of reference for the ITO decongestion project immediately; and to forward them to the Public Works Department so that work on the project can be started as early as possible.
