Delhi and NCR: DDA all set to bring transparency, efficiency and accountability
Bringing transparency, efficiency and accountability in Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is the major focus for Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, the administrative head of the DDA. In a review meeting held today, the LG gave two weeks’ time to the DDA to finalise a restructuring plan in order to bring transparency, efficiency and accountability in the organization.
The LG wants the DDA officials to submit the plan to him for his review and approval. The LG took this decision to restructure the DDA after he faced severe criticism from different quarters against the authority for alleged corruption, red tape and delay in implementation of various important projects.
DDA is on its path to computerise all its works and services following the directive from the LG. The computerisation project will commence in November this year and it is expected to be completed by September next year.
DDA officials assured the LG that the restructuring plan has already been prepared and will be fine-tuned in the next two weeks. The meeting also examined a report by the National Productivity Council (NPC), which was tasked to suggest measures for improving the DDA functioning.
There were a few suggestions from NPC which the LG wants to look into. The NPC suggested merging of certain departments with the overlapping areas of work and creation of new positions such as those involving land development and management of housing schemes. This will optimise output and minimise costs as the head count will reduce.
