Delhi: DDA asked to allot land to turn debris into building material
In a last-week order to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that the Authority should allot land to each of the municipal bodies in places where there is potential for installation of facilities for conversion of debris into building material.
In the instructions released to DDA on Friday, Naidu said that allotment of land to convert debris into building material was part of a national declaration adopted by all Indian states to make cities better.
Revealing that the land allotment issue has been raised by the three Mayors, Naidu said that DDA has been asked to allot land as directed, on a priority basis. Towards that end, the DDA has scheduled a meeting with the municipal bodies on July 11.
According to the information shared by unidentified sources, the allocation of sites has been the demand of the three municipal bodies so that the task of converting debris into building material can be started as early as possible. The sources said that, thus far, a patch of land has been allotted only to the South Corporation.
Meanwhile, other than the land allotment issue, the Mayors and senior officials of the corporations have also been demanding that the power of legalizing unauthorized colonies should be restored to the municipal bodies.
