Delhi Development Authority asked to offer more housing schemes for all income groups
Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu revealed in an interview with TOI on Friday that Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has been asked to offer more housing schemes for buyers from all income groups. The move is essentially aimed at meeting the shortfall in housing in the Capital.
According to the details shared by Naidu, DDA will plan more housing schemes for low- to high-income groups, in accordance with the high priority which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving to meeting the housing needs of different categories of buyers.
Naidu said that for offering more housing schemes, for which the participation of the private sector may also be considered, DDA has been asked to accelerate the utilization of land at its disposal.
Asserting that he has asked the DDA to “understand the mandate set out by the Prime Minister,” Naidu – who has outlined what he describes as an ‘inclusive approach’ – said that he has given DDA the indication that, when it comes to housing, the “vulnerable section” of society has to be taken care of.
Naidu said that “if we want to provide housing to all by 2022, it must start with Delhi;” and added: “In rural and urban planning, we have to take care of the realities. You cannot make poor stay far away from housing colonies where they have to come for work.”
