Delhi Government initiates redevelopment of Chandni Chowk
As the elections are on top, Delhi government took the agenda to redevelop Chandni Chowk all over again this year.
Moving aside the North municipal corporation of Delhi, Chief Minister of Delhi entrusted that the redevelopment work should be given to Government’s Public Works Department (PWD) for better and master development.
CM ensured that traffic will not be hampered due to this development work. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is appointed for the task and has been asked for expertise help in order to construct lines underground without disturbing traffic in the areas.
This construction of redeveloping Chandni Chowk was pending since long time, however, now the government has given green signal to PWD to take up the work and complete it within a year.
This redevelopment project in Delhi includes reconstruction of the streets, creating pedestrian friendly environment within distinctive character of Chandni Chowk and also to create heritage environment on the stretch of Chandni Chowk.
The total project is divided into two phases . Phase 1 comprises of all the development work and services underground and phase II will take care of the renewal of the project, that is redevelopment of Chandni Chowk.
The final call was taken in a meeting with Sheila Dikshit and the Union Communication Minister Kapil Sibal with principal secretary (Finance and Power), principal secretary (PWD), managing director of DMRC and chief executive officer of Delhi Jal Board.
