Delhi had maximum reports of property fraud cases in 2013
According to the latest statistics shared by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Delhi was the top-ranking State/Union Territory in India in terms of property fraud and misappropriation in 2013.
The NCRB report has revealed that, among all states and union territories (UTs) in India, the maximum number of reports of property fraud cases during the year 2013 were in the country’s capital city, Delhi.
Specifically speaking, as many as 181 cases – the highest for any Indian state or UT in 2013 – were reported in Delhi last year, in sections of property lost under criminal breach of trust and cheating. Out of the total reported cases, 173 cases were of cheating; while 8 cases were of criminal breach of trust.
About the evident spurt in property fraud and misappropriation in Delhi in recent times, Satish Golcha – Joint Commissioner of Police (EOW) – said: “Around 30 per cent of all the cases which are reported to us are related to real estate.” While the typical methods of property fraud include sale of mortgaged property to multiple buyers or on fudged papers, the police said that people are now coming up with unique ways to dupe investors.
Meanwhile, among the other States/UTs with high number of property fraud cases in 2013 was Maharashtra, where 176 such cases were reported during the year. Punjab ranked third on the list, with 82 cases.
