Delhi High Court requests LG to revisit plan for South Ex-II
On Thursday, the Delhi High Court asked the Lieutenant Governor (LG) to revisit the plan for commercialization and redevelopment project in Kidwai Nagar and South Extension-II. The LG has also been urged to analyze how the existing infrastructure will be affected by the project.
The HC’s request to the LG to revisit the project plan is essentially rooted in the observation that south Delhi’s current infrastructure of road, water and electricity is already “severely overburdened.”
About the HC’s request to the LG, Justice Manmohan said that the LG has also been asked to ascertain the impact which the planned commercialization and redevelopment project in Kidwai Nagar and South Extension-II is likely to have on the lives of residents in the neighbourhood, especially with regard to noise and air pollution, and traffic congestion.
Justice Manmohan said that the LG has also been urged to examine all possible remedial measures, such as enhancement of existing infrastructure.
The HC’s decision to have the commercialization and redevelopment project in Kidwai Nagar and South Extension-II revisited by the LG came during the hearing of a plea filed by senior lawyer Aman Lekhi. The plea called for instructions to be given to the authorities to restore the residential nature of South Extension area and its adjoining places in south Delhi.
The plea chiefly opposed the clearance which the authorities have given for the construction of more than 1 lakh sq m of commercial space in the area.
