Delhi & NCR: Barapullah elevated corridor to soon be extended to Mayur Vihar
In a June 15 statement, Public Works Department (PWD)’s principal secretary Arun Baroka said that green signal has been given for the extension of the Barapullah elevated corridor to Mayur Vihar – the new bridge over Yamuna which is being constructed to connect Sarai Kale Khan to East Delhi.
Revealing that all the necessary approvals have been received for commencing work on the Phase III project of the Barapullah elevated corridor, Baroka said that the construction of Barapullah extension to Mayur Vihar will begin “soon.” Under the Phase I project undertaken in 2010, PWD has built an elevated corridor from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to Sarai Kale Khan over Barapullah Nallah.
According to Baroka’s statement about approval for Phase III project, the proposal for constructing “a bridge on Yamuna in the downstream of Nizamuddin Bridge” had been approved as part of the Master Plan for Delhi 2021.
Noting that financial clearance for the Phase II project, for extending Barapullah to Mayur Vihar, will likely be received shortly, Baroka said that PWD expects an approval from the expenditure finance committee (EFC) soon.
Baroka said: “After obtaining all statutory clearances/approvals, the preliminary estimate amounting to Rs 1285.64 crore has been submitted, so that the construction work can start without any hurdle.”
