Delhi & NCR: HUDA names ex-CEC Quraishi and 37 others who have been allotted multiple plots

The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) submitted a detailed affidavit at the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday, revealing the names of the people who have been allotted multiple plots under discretionary quota; thereby marking a violation of the rules.

One of the most prominent names featuring on HUDA’s ‘multiple plot allotment’ list is that of India’s ex-Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi. Other than Quraishi, the list names 37 more people, including a former High Court Judge, an IAS officer, and an IPS officer.

According to HUDA, all the people named in the list allegedly got more than one plot under discretionary quota, which means that the multiple-plot allotment violated the rules applicable in parts of Haryana including Gurgaon and Faridabad.

The revelation by HUDA – which had originally allotted the plots – came in response to a directive by the court, asking HUDA to look into the plot allotments under the discretionary quota.

The affidavit submitted by HUDA reveals that two plots were obtained by Quraishi, in Gurgaon and Faridabad, under the discretionary quota in 1975 and 1981.

A notice will now be issued by HUDA to Quraishi, as well as the other alleged multiple-plot allotters, seeking a clarification of their stand before an FIR is registered. Moreover, as part of a standard procedure, HUDA will also publish a public notice in two national dailies, giving a period of four weeks to all those named in its affidavit.
