Delhi & NCR: Work on Rani Jhansi grade separator hits another hurdle

No Comments Sub Category:Delhi-NCR,Realty News Posted On: Jun 01, 2014

Land-acquisition issues related to the Rani Jhansi grade separator mark the latest obstacle affecting the construction work on the much delayed 1.8km long flyover. The delays-ridden flyover is already in the 15th year of its construction.

As a result of the long delay in the completion of the construction work of the Rani Jhansi grade separator, the cost of the project has escalated manifold over the initially estimated cost of Rs 177 crore.

The latest hurdle which has hit the constriction work on the flyover is that the Railways have not issued the requisite approval to North Delhi Municipal Corporation for acquisition of land. It is being reported that the Railways may back out on the land deal.

In response to a PIL filed in court, North Corporation revealed in a status report submitted on Wednesday that work on only 37 percent of the acquired land has been completed thus far. The corporation blamed the Delhi Urban Shelter and Improvement Board and the Railways for the delays in construction work on the Rani Jhansi flyover.

However, Arpit Bhargava, who filed the PIL in April, asserted that the status report shows that 54 percent of the total land required for the flyover had been acquired by the Corporation; but it had not even started work on 17 percent of the land. Bhargava said that the delayed construction of the Rani Jhansi flyover marked “a prime example of lapse by the Corporation.”
