Delhi/NCR: Encroachments in the way of FNG corridor removed
A demolition drive was carried out by the Noida Authority on Wednesday to remove encroachments in the way of the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) corridor, so that work on the corridor can be accelerated.
The demolition drive was conducted by an anti-encroachment team from Noida’s Sector 139 area. The drive resulted in the flattening of approximately 8,000 square metres of government land which had been encroached.
It was amid heavy police presence that the demolition drive was carried out at around 2pm Wednesday afternoon.
About the land flattened and freed by the anti-encroachment team, B K Singh – project engineer and work circle in-charge (7), Noida – said that nearly 30 unauthorized constructions were demolished; and more than 200 plots carved out by illegal developers were also cleared.
Noting that the encroached land lies in the flood zone area, Singh said that no construction is legally permitted in this area. Further adding that the encroachments were causing a hindrance to the construction work on the Rs 1,000-crore, 56-km-long FNG corridor, Singh said: “About 7.5km of the FNG corridor was being affected by the encroachment and we were not able to make progress.”
Thus far, the Noida Authority has completed construction work on only 9km of the total 19.9km of the FNG stretch which falls in its jurisdiction.
