Delhi/NCR: Gurgaon workers to get affordable housing facilities
Affordable housing facilities will be made available for industrial workers in Gurgaon, in an evident attempt to deal with the shortage of manpower in the industrial zones in an around Gurgaon.
With there being lack of affordable housing facilities for industrial workers in the Gurgaon area, more than 7 lakh employees comprise the ‘floating workforce’ of the industrial units. Since there are not enough affordable housing facilities in the industrial townships of the Gurgaon area, the existing workforce lacks the stability to continue with their employment in the area.
It is apparent that industrial zones in the Gurgaon area have been witnessing labour crunch because of shortage of employable workers in recent years. Due to the shrinking labour market, many industrial units are dealing with direct production losses.
However, with a new policy for affordable housing for Gurgaon workers now underway, affordable housing facilities will serve as a stabilizing force for the industrial workers.
With trade unions across Gurgaon having been demanding affordable housing for industrial workers, a state official said: “The policy paves the way for better housing facilities for the weaker sections of the society. And new affordable facilities will be of great help to the industrial and urban areas of the region, where cheaper accommodation is a great requirement.”
