Developers Ask Concession for Environment Clearances

No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Nov 27, 2014

The Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (Credai), state unit, come forward demanding an increase in the project sizes that need environment clearances. As per their needs, the size should be increased from the current 20,000 sq. m to 1 lakh sq. m.

The chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Union environment minister, Prakash Javadekar, has received an appeal with respect to the matter from CREDAI Maharashtra. On Friday, the real estate developers’ body released a statement saying that the government should relax their environmental clearance guidelines for residential construction sector as it doesn’t have any relevant impact on the environment when compared with the others like the chemical and mining sectors.

They added that in case a complete exemption is not possible by the government in the near future, they should at least increase the existing opening limit from 20,000 sq m to 1 lakh sq m. Shantilal Kataria, who is the vice-president of CREDAI Maharashtra, said that most projects fail to gain environmental clearance within the allotted time of 150 days.

He wants the government to take measures for automatic clearance when such period lapses occur. Kataria explained that once a developer receives the approval for a building plan and proceeds with the construction after applying for the environment clearance, the developer shouldn’t be held responsible for violation of laws.

In case the project is granted clearance, then the developer should be permitted a one-time amnesty by the government and given way to carry on with the construction. Kataria says a CREDAI delegation will be meeting with Fadnavis and Javadekar soon to talk about the matter.
