Soon there will be a change witnessed at entrance to the Panaji city from chaotic and the ambience not eye-catching to a developed ‘entrance zone’ to the capital city with requisite infrastructure.
The directorate of municipal administration (DMA) in a scheme recently has sanctioned a grant of Rs 50,000 by a pattern of financial assistance.
An economic development corporation (EDC) official said, the main objective is to provide infrastructure at the entrance, as the the situation is imperfect for tourists and locals due to traffic chaos and other problems.
In the area defined as capital city entrance zone (CCEZ), the allotment for developmental activities envisages preliminary studies, survey works and execution of major and minor projects.
A task force has been constituted with a corporation official, Ajit Ghantkar as the member secretary along with EDC which is the nodal agency for the project to synchronize all developmental activities affecting to the areas in EDC, Patto Plaza, capital city and surrounding areas.
Few key projects in the Patto Plaza area have already been commenced by EDC.
The EDC official added, earlier there were no proper footpaths here, we have also instigated pay parking, but though the idea of fees is often conflicting, it ensures discipline.
The motive of the scheme is to release the funds for the project to draw up a master plan and execute it. A DMA official mentioned that the utilization of the grant should be done within six months and the entrance zone development will get a major boost.
