DLF deal is ‘transparent’: Haryana government
On Wednesday the Punjab and Haryana high court order cancelling the auction was not accepted well by the Haryana government. 350.7 acres of land was allotted to the real estate giant DLF, and cancelling the auction came as a big jolt to the Haryana government.
On Thursday, the government rushed to defend its decision, saying the land transfer was a transparent affair. On Wednesday the high court had cancelled the Haryana government auction of land at Wazirabad in Gurgaon. This land was bagged by DLF for Rs 1,703 crore in 2010.
On Thursday the additional chief secretary (industries) Yudhvir Singh Maliktried to clear “facts”. This was done in a hurriedly called press conference. The Haryana government is in the damage control mode now as assembly elections are round the corner.
Wednesday’s high court order had, however, upheld the government’s land acquisition process. It had only passed an order cancelling the land allotment. The high court had also permitted the state to allot the land through global bidding. This is a very transparent mode, however the goof up was not liked by the real estate industry.
Malik stated that lots of efforts were involved in the past 12 years to prepare and implement the project. Hence it is not an issue of defending anyone. The government’s compulsion to defend the DLF despite no adverse order against the state had mixed reactions from the various sectors.
