DLF Riverside in Chilavannoor violating environmental clause
The State Chief Secretary E K Bharat Bhusan recent report pointed out the serious violation cause by DLF Riverside which is a waterfront residential project in Chilavannoor which has opened a can of worms in the city’s realty sector.
While the report and consequent revelations rocked the state’s bureaucratic and political establishment the reaction of Kochi Corporation which is allegedly complicit in sanctioning the controversial project that has been smug as usual.
Instead of clearing themselves of the charges, the corporation took an aggressive stance with Mayor Tony Chammany stating categorically that the civic body would not be withdrawing the occupancy certificate granted to the project. The project has been violating the environmental clauses that are required to look into while constructing the project. This has been hampering the waterfront of the city. Decisions need to be taken to do away with the problem. Required measures that could protect the waterfront in very much required.
Previously a notice had been sent in order to look into the causes. Investigation was carried to look into the matter. Hopefully steps will be taken against the project despite the decision of the Mayor of not withdrawing the occupancy certificate.
