DMRC completes tunnelling work on Lal Quila Metro station
According to an announcement made by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Thursday, tunnelling work at the Lal Quila Metro station has been successfully completed. The Lal Quila Metro station is a part of the extended Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate corridor of Delhi Metro’s Phase III.
Going by the details shared by the DMRC officials, the 650-metre-long tunnel completed at the Lal Quila Metro station connects the station with Jama Masjid. The tunnel has a maximum depth of 14 meters.
The DMRC officials also said that tunnel construction work is also in progress to complete another Delhi Metro Phase III tunnel on the same corridor. The scheduled timeline for the completion of that tunnel is October 2014.
With regard to other information related to the 9.37km long Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate corridor, the DMRC officials said that the stretch between Central Secretariat and Mandi House section was opened for the public in July. The officials also disclosed that tunnelling work at Mandi house and Delhi has also been completed.
The Phase III construction work of the Delhi Metro involves the laying out of 53km of underground lines. There are a total of seven projects which comprise Phase III work of the Metro.
