Dozens of illegal apartments sprout in Secretariat Colony
The Secretariat Colony in Puppalguda has turned in to a hub of illegal apartments.
A group of Secretariat employees have bought vacant plots and even independent homes in this area about two decades ago, are now redeveloped into commercially viable multi-storied projects which largely caters the middle-class buyers.
Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) officials said that most of these projects are not regularized and, therefore, are not permitted for house residential apartments.
A realtor said that the Secretariat employees planned to convert the land into HMDA (then HUDA) layout when it is bought initially. However, when they failed to do that many of them either built small houses or sold it off to private developers.
As parts of the Hyderabad are witnessing land scarcity now, builders have aimed this colony to build illegal homes that are still not regularized.
When questioned, a broker said about 60 per cent of the properties does not have the LRS certificate in this colony.
