EC permits lottery for Kharghar housing project
The state election commission gave the green signal for drawing lottery to decide the winners of Valley Shilp Housing scheme introduced by CIDCO.
The CIDCO has Valley shilp housing project at sector-36 of Karghar to offer affordable housings to the needy citizens. In the middle of January, CIDCO had asked the applications for 1224 flats built for MIG and HIG families and sold 13535 application forms. But 3315 applicants including 733 HIG applicants and 2582 MIG applicants responded to the call. The interesting fact is that nobody is ready to purchase the flat reserved for the media persons, PAP, CIDCO employees, and elected representatives including MLA and MP.
A CIDCO insider says that they have not received application for 268 flats reserved for the special categories.
There are so many features and reason behind the lukewarm response; the primary being the location of the site which is far from Karghar railway station and bus depots. Except this, another important reason was the property rate was as high as private builders, and more over the Earnest money Deposit was also too high and unaffordable for the MIG people.
As 3315 applicants have shown interest to buy 1224 flats, CIDCO had decided to apply lottery system to decide the winners. The declaration of the Lok Sabha elections and the implementation of model code of conduct have raised the topic that it would, however, decrease the prospect of the flat allotment during election time. In an attempt to prevent the public rites, The CIDCO has urged the election commission to give approval of lottery.
Dr. Mohan Ninave, Chief PRO, says that CIDCO had introduced the scheme much before the Lok Sabha election. They have convinced the EC that the allotment of flat will not motivate the voters to vote, this is the reason why EC has given the approval to conduct the lottery.
