Electroplating units efforts on Pollution Check in Punjab
The effort to check pollution has become a new awareness all over India. The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has taken intiative and have ordered electro-plating units in Jalandhar for discharging the effluents into the sewerage system. A survey also is yet to be conducted to identify the prevailing units which are not registered with the Punjab Board. The officials have also conducted meetings with the various associations in regard with the electro-plating industries at Ludhiana and Jalandhar. PPCB Chairman K S Pannu reported saying that the board had also conducted raids on 41 similar industries at Ludhiana. He also added on saying that the units were discharging wastes that contained Chromium and Nickel. The PPCB has also issued a public notice in concern with the non-conforming electro-plating units at Ludhiana to ensure lifting of effluents by the Ludhiana Effluent Treatment Society (LETS).
