Entry of International Retailers stopped in India because of poor management of malls

No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Jun 05, 2014

Even though there are 60% of the international retailers currently staying in India, the growth has been significantly deterred because of the lack of good managing skills at malls and high rentals. An analysis was made by the multinational real estate firm on more than 300 international retailers in order to understand the operating trends, the strategies of expansion, extent of penetration across all the leading cities.

The study also went ahead and scrutinized luxury brands and premium and high end categories. The presence of the retailers was also analysed. This was based on standalone stores within the malls as well as market places.

Even though India has emerged as one of the most significant destinations in the fields of food and beverages, fashion apparel and hypermarket chains, there are almost 4 out of ten retailers who still haven’t started to work towards building their own shops within the country. 80% of the retailers who have entered India are in Delhi while 70% of it is in Mumbai and 50% in Bangalore. The retailers have also taken up tier 2 cities such as Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Jaipur.
