Delhi’s traffic landscape to be enhanced with 7 tunnels planned for a better connectivity with all key spot
With the increasing traffic needs and changing needs of infrastructure planning, every city has to ensure easy transportation for better efficiency. The country’s capital Delhi, which is notorious for its heavy traffic jam, may get a face lit with the city traffic police’s proposal for of seven tunnel roads inside the city to clear all hot spots and clogged stretches. The most clogged stretches in the city like the ITO which needs immediate attention from city planned hope a reduction of 80% traffic with this new plan.
These roads which are planned are likely to be just around 1 kilometre to 2.5 kilometres long which will be a cost-effective plan and allowing motorists to gain benefit from them without much delay.
As per the current city’s traffic landscape, if you have a closer look at the planned roadway map, it is very obvious that many of the stretches are disjoint. As per the words of Anil Shukla, Joint commissioner of Delhi traffic police, they have put forth the idea to bridge the missing links in the city and to offer an alternative route for the travelers.
A committee of high-powered of the union transport ministry is appointed to examine the plan. This has set high hopes for the city traffic police hope for making the proposal realize with atleast one tunnel road within a timeframe of two years. As per the reports of Delhi city traffic police, over 100,000 vehicles used to pass through the ITO route every day, making it one of the most highly congested spot in the country’s capital.
Prior to this proposal, during the months of August and September, the HT had run a 24-part series called ‘Unclog’ Delhi, to identify the city’s top congested spots and made a careful planning to possible ways to free them up.
The tunnel roads which planned according to the traffic police will be connecting all parallel locations, like Bhagwan Das Road and Old Fort to Ring Road, are expected to ease out the traffic jams in closer areas too alike ITO, Tilak Marg, Pragati Maidan, Mathura Road and Mandi House, setting forward a better city infrastructure.
