EPFO to enrol more eligible workers under the EPF scheme: enforcement officers issued guidelines
Employees’ provident fund organization (EPFO), is gearing up to gather the information about the number of new workers coming under its ambit. There has been a proposed hike to the ceiling for provident fund coverage to a monthly salary of Rs 15,000, as against Rs 6,500 now.
Special stress has been laid on the construction sector with inspectors directed to visit maximum number of sites to gather information. It is believed that the construction sector does not do proper book keeping and many employees who should be under the ambit of EPFO are not enrolled for the scheme. An internal communication has been addressed to the regional offices spelling the guidelines on searching for such probable workers.
Each enforcement officer will be allotted a group of establishments with the details of the group and the officer in-charge will be fed in the internal software. The officer will visit each establishment not covered as employees draw a salary above Rs 6,500 and find out as to how many are drawing within Rs 15,000 now.
The focus has to be on visiting establishments where there is a concentration of workers like the construction sector and placement agencies.
EPFO, which covers more than 4 crore employees in the private sector, is known to be the biggest social security scheme in the world.
