Eviction drive at Ejipura
Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) started eviction drive at Ejipura quarters near the National Games Village in Koramangala.
The slum dwellers will be relocated temporarily at Iggalur in Anekal taluk till the time the construction is completed. The BBMP carried out the drive and demolished 32 shanties. Later, each of the displaced families was given a cheque for Rs 30,000.
In 2012, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between BBMP and Maverick Holdings & Investments Private Limited on the development of a housing complex for economically weaker sections (EWS) at Koramangala. The total cost of the project is around Rs. 300 crore. The slum dwellers were supposed to get new houses within a year and half but the construction work has not started till now.
The total land for the project is around 15.64 acres from which half of the land would be used for building residential quarters for the EWS while in the remaining land, a commercial complex or mall would be built, which will fetch BBMP Rs 1.7 crore for every three months as rent.
