EWS flats lying vacant in Chandigarh

Comments(5) Sub Category:Other cities,Real estate trends,Realty News Posted On: Sep 26, 2012

10,000 one-room tenements constructed for the economically weaker sections under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in Chandigarh are lying unused and are suffering from a total lack of maintenance.

The flats were constructed almost a year back. However, these could not be allotted to the beneficiaries due to the incomplete infrastructure of the flats. Now the monsoon has even worsened the conditions of the flats.

The glass panes on the windows at many flats are broken and overgrown grass has covered the grounds. Moss has covered front of the houses on the ground floor.

The related infrastructure like Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) and roads are not being developed yet. Taking note of the wastage of the flats, the Union Ministry for Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources has ordered that the flats be delivered soon.
