Fare prices of metro to be kept down in Delhi
The urban development minister‘s plan of keeping Delhi Metro fares down by generating revenue through property development could be a non-starter. More than a decade after starting services, Delhi Metro has generated a little over Rs 900 crore against a target of over Rs 2,500 crore.
More than Rs 700 crore of that revenue was generated in the first phase of its network. According to the Delhi government, Delhi Metro hasn’t generated any revenue from property development in the past few years.
According to the data available with the transport department, the last time that Delhi Metro Rail Corporation made any substantial revenue from its property development was in Phase I of the network. At the time, it had generated a total of Rs 782 crore against a target of Rs 300 crore.
The fares for Delhi Metro if kept down might help in developing more revenues than it is happening now. As figure stated it has hardly generated much revenue. For a decade a revenue amount of Rs 900 crore is a very meagre amount.
