Farmers protest in NOIDA against government

No Comments Sub Category:Real estate trends,Realty News Posted On: Feb 17, 2014

The farmers in Gautam Budh Nagar, Noida have been protesting for 6 days now, against the Samajwadi Party government, for not granting approval to the policy of returning abadi land (land under habitation) to farmers. A group comprising 70 district villages are camping outside the Greater Noida Authority office.

Cabinet deliberated on the policy that abadi land was to be returned to the rightful owners. The land had been acquired along with farmlands in Greater Noida by the previous Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government. However, it was not cleared, raising dissatisfaction among farmers.

The farmers staged a protest two years ago. The BSP government had been forced to promise the return of portions of land that had been acquired from the farmers.

Farmer leader Manvir Bhati points out that the policy will have a direct impact on the lives of 10,000 farmers in the district.

Farmers alleged that the government is not working on the development of Greater Noida. They are questioning the government’s decision to utilize funds generated in Greater Noida for the other districts of UP.

They are also demanding that mandatory employment should be provided to some local youth in the industries that are coming up in the district.
