Final norms of REIT/InvIT to be made in August
SEBI is looking forward to finalise norms for the real estate or infrastructure investment trusts because of its upcoming board meeting which is going to be held in New Delhi on the 9th of August. This will be making the way for such entities so that they can list on the exchanges in what could boost the infrastructure financing.
The REIT/InvIT norms may be finalised and approved in the upcoming Sebi board meeting, and the norms are likely to be notified from around 15 days from the last meeting as announced by a senior finance ministry official.
The REITs/InvITs are entities which list units on an exchange and use the proceeds from the unit holders so that they can invest in real estate as well as infrastructure projects. Although such a model is in vogue across most of the developed economies but it is the first time that such trusts will be entering India. REITS/InvITs will help the developers’ to monetise with the commercial assets, so that it can attract domestic and foreign capital. Doing this could make it in helping the large developers to plan for such long-term projects.
