First cluster slum redevelopment project is completed in Mumbai

slum rehabilitation565 residents of the Hazi Kasam Chawl at Lalbaug have moved to their new homes under the ambitious Cluster Redevelopment Scheme by the state government.

The redevelopment project was completed by the Nish Developers and they are the first to secure permission to redevelop their seven acre property under the cluster scheme.

A green building is constructed for the residents along with a water recycling plant installed in the apartment complex.

This water recycling plant will ensure uninterrupted water supply and reduce power bills by 35%. Other amenities included are a health club, garden and community halls in the complex.

According to the builder, the government should take more initiative for earlier execution of such redevelopment projects.

Till now just five cluster redevelopment projects in Mumbai have got the green signal from the government while work has started only in one.

All the residents are happy as they got much bigger flats with all civic facilities.
