Flipkart is all set to build a 1.5 million square feet campus in Bangalore
India’s largest e-commerce firm Flipkart, which is in advanced talks to raise more funds, is looking to consolidate its offices in Bangalore and build a large, 1.5 million square feet campus. This campus will have an initial capacity to house 12,000 people and will save a lot of rental income for the company which it spends on various leased offices now.
Flipkart, promoted by Flipkart India Pvt. Ltd, has hired property consultant Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL), to find builders for this ambitious project. This campus is expected to be completed and operational by 2017.
Mekin Maheshwari the chief people officer at Flipkart stated that Flipkart currently has eight offices in Bangalore. The campus is being built keeping in mind the future growth at Flipkart. The campus will be a very large facility keeping in mind the growth of the e-commerce sector in India. It is expected to create more jobs in the near future.
With interests from over 35 developers, the company is evaluating this project and are looking at completing this by 2017. The company after speculating with the expert opinion from JLL will finalise on a developer and will award the project. The Flipkart new campus RFP (request for proposal) aims at consolidating all Flipkart offices into one big office. After merging with Myntra, Flipkart is expected to be the largest e-tailer in the country
