The Lieutenant Governor has allotted Rs 1.25 crore for every village in each district of the Capital. This amount was earmarked to ensure overall development of the city. A budget of Rs 200 crore has been sanctioned by the rural development board for the current financial year 2014-15 for the purpose.

The government has now asked all the deputy commissioners to consult the local MLA or MP of their area so that this project can run seamlessly. The local bodies only are capable of prioritising their needs. The monitoring of the rural work is to be done by the deputy commissioners. This will ensure their completion in a time-bound manner.

The deputy commissioner can recommend works such as construction or repair of approach roads, link roads and village roads, construction of drainage facility mainly to protect flooding, development of cremation grounds, parks and playgrounds, ponds or water bodies and other works related to drinking water facility and street lights.

A senior Delhi government official mentioned that if the amount of any schemes of a particular village exceeds the expenditure of Rs. 1.25 Crore, then it can be adjusted against the amount of another village that has spent less than Rs. 1.25 Crore for its development. The official mentioned that all the deputy commissioners have been asked to call a meeting to consult with the local MLA and MP while selecting the suitable schemes.
