Garbage collection points becoming dump yards in Chennai

No Comments Sub Category:Chennai,Health,Municipality Posted On: Aug 01, 2012

The civic body’s garbage collection centers in Chennai seem to be turning into mini dump yards of their own.

As the city precariously stands on the brink of an outbreak of diarrhea, these garbage collection points have become breeding ground for mosquitos and houseflies.

The Chennai Corporation is forced to dismantle the bright blue aluminium enclosures from several areas after having received repeated complaints from residents and going back to the old system of placing garbage bins in different parts of a street.

The residents of Sowcarpet have been complaining to the civic body to remove the garbage collection point from their area, which is also next to a corporation primary health center which specializes in maternity care.
