Garden city turns into Garbage city
The ‘Garden City’ residents are waiting to see when the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will wake up to their plight and takes some remedial action against garbage that is piling up in Bangalore as the contractors are not bothered to collect it.
The communities, who live around Mavallipura, where the city’s garbage was dumped in landfills, have opposed dumping of garbage following the death of two residents of renal failure. As a result of this, garbage dumping at Mavallipura has almost come to a standstill.
According to BBMP sources, the Palike has been paying extra to send garbage to the landfill managed by Terra Firma Biotechnologies Ltd. near Doddaballapur.
Senior BBMP officials acknowledged that there were some issues pertaining to garbage clearance. They said that the garbage trucks are being sent to the landfills in Mandur and Rajarajeshwarinagar.
