GHMC goes hi-tech to prevent unauthorized constructions and deviations

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to utilise the ‘Off Site Real Time ‘(OSRT) system for town planning operations and services to prevent unauthorized constructions and deviations in sanctioned buildings. The GHMC would monitor the sites through satellite maps and images.

Under the OSRT system, GHMC’s town planning staff would take pictures of sites and buildings using mobile phones and send them to officials concerned who would upload them on the website. Before permitting a building, town planning staff would have to take pictures of the site proposed for construction and approach road width, topography and surroundings details. The building committee members would compare the images before approving permissions. If the builder starts construction prior to the permission, a penalty would be imposed. Similarly, images would also be taken of ongoing constructions to supervise whether the builder/owner was constructing structures as per the plan or wasdeviating from it.

“If they are violating from the plan, construction will be stopped immediately,” the additional commissioner said. He said that for issuing occupancy certificate, five dimension pictures would be taken like setbacks, elevation, parking and terrace. Fire safety equipment installations in high-rises would also be covered under the new system soon, he added.

Meanwhile, the town planning wing has started collating pictures of all ongoing constructions images and the process would be completed by January 31. This baseline date would be used to check whether a particular structure has permission or not. If it is unauthorized, action would be initiated against the owner or builder.
