Government cancels the allotment of Gandhi Maidan
Facing protests against the move to allot part of the Gandhi Maidan in Patna to a construction firm, the state government went ahead and cancelled the allotment and it asked the firm, Ahluwalia Contracts, to not to utilize the ground for the work related to the construction of international convention centre nearby.
It has been learnt that Ahluwalia Contracts had been commissioned to construct the convention centre between Magadh Mahila College and Gandhi Sangrahalaya on the northern side of the Gandhi Maidan. As per the earlier plan, the agency had to construct parts of the projects in the allotted portion of the ground, which had been encircled, and later move them to the actual site. It has also been learnt that the government allotted the Maidan to the firm on a monthly rent of Rs 1.35 crore.
The mega project had earlier too faced protests when students and teachers of Magadh Mahila College came on the streets against the move to block the entry to their campus.
