Government kicks off online environment clearances for industrial and infrastructure projects
In a highly noteworthy move aimed at expediting green clearances for industrial and infrastructure projects, the Government announced on Thursday that it has kicked off online environment clearances for projects.
The government’s decision to go online with green clearances underscores a very significant move, especially given the fact that a number of industrial and infrastructure projects have been hobbling for long due to the sluggish pace of green approvals.
With regard to the online green clearances move, Environment and Forests Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the transition to an e-window mechanism for green clearances will take a period of three weeks. During this period, project developers will have to file an online application for green clearances, and will also have to submit a hard copy of the application.
Javadekar also asserted that. With effect from July 1, the ‘green approvals’ system will be fully online. The Minister also added that there will be a time limit the entire approval process, with timelines having been set stage-wise.
Asserting that “Efforts will be made to bring down the timelines for each stage,” Javadekar said – during his address at an event to celebrate the World Environment Day – that the move in the direction of online green clearances for industrial and infrastructure projects marks “a beginning of transparency in governance and better functioning of the ministry.”
