Government raises annual income bar

The government has decided to raise the amount on annual income for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Lower Income Groups (LIG) to get the benefits of housing scheme.
The income declared for EWS have been raised to Rs 1 lakh from Rs 60,000 and for LIG it has been raised to Rs 2 lakhs as per Union Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA) Ajay Maken report.
The judgement will be put in place during the 12th Five Year Plan and the same information is being conveyed to the state governments and banks for effective implementation, Maken added.
The union Minister said that EWS and LIG can take the benefits under Rajiv Awas Yojna (RAY) and EWS Housing Schemes after inaugurating the Build Tech-2012 organised by HUDCO and they need not have to show fake income certificates anymore.
The civic body is aiming to cover 20 lakh people under the 12th Five Year Plan and this will benefit more people as more people will be qualified for home loans, he said. Steps are being taken and the decision will be implemented on immediate basis, Maken added.
HUDCO Build Tech 2012 is an attempt to showcase innovative, cost effective, environment-friendly building material and sustainable, a Ministry release said. which was inaugurated at the India International Trade Fair (IITF). At the fair various energy efficient technologies, green building concepts and home decor concepts were displayed. They are also planning to project housing finance companies and real estate, the release added.
HUDCO’s role as a bank is very important for helping the poor people meet their housing requirements, Maken said.
