Government trying to pass real estate bill, eyes of votes

No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Feb 18, 2014

The UPA government is trying hard to get the real estate bill passed in the current session of Parliament. With an eye on the Lok Sabha elections, this populist measure is likely to get a lot of attention from voters.

Chairman of the standing committee of Parliament, Sharad Yadav, and Congress general secretary and former housing minister Ajay Maken met on Sunday to discuss the long pending legislation to protect home buyers.

Millions of home buyers will get relief after the The Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Bill, 2013 is passed. The bill, which was introduced in Rajya Sabha last year, will also tighten the screws on unscrupulous builders.

Maken and a delegation of apartment buyers/owners of Noida Extension, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad met Yadav to request him to present the committee’s report in Lok Sabha on Monday. They requested that the bill should be passed the current parliament session.

Yadav assured Maken and the delegation that the bill will be presented as requested. The builders’ lobby is opposing the legislation. It talks about protection for home buyers and punishment for erring private developers. If cleared, the private builders will be required to sell apartments only on the basis of built up area and not super area, which is a little ambiguous by definition. All the details will need to be put on the regulator’s website and can get money from buyers only after taking all necessary clearances.
