The Ministry of Urban Development has revealed that, for its ambitious ‘100 smart cities’ initiative, a web portal will be launched for inviting the participation of all stakeholders – including the general public – in discussions pertaining to the initiative.

According to the information shared by a senior official of the Ministry, the web portal launched for opening discussion on ‘100 smart cities’ initiative will be the ‘www.smartindia.gov.in’ website.

Disclosing that the mentioned web portal “will be up and running in 8-10 days,” the official said that the portal will be “open for intense discussion from everybody,” so that the Ministry can formulate guidelines for smart cities after a proper dialogue ensuring the participation of the public in the government’s policy-building process.

With regard to the consultative move being undertaken by the government to further its ‘100 smart cities’ initiative and ensure its success, JLL India’s Chairman and Country Head Anuj Puri said that the building blocks of the past cannot contribute effectively towards creating real estate for the future.

Asserting that “progressive formats such as smart cities are the result of vast knowledge and know-how,” Puri said that “the inputs required for the success of futuristic concepts are, at best, spread thinly on the ground.”
